General FAQ

Q: How do I pay to extend my IceTV service?  
A: You can click on the Buy Now button on the Store page which will take you to the shopping cart to purchase the 1 month pre-paid subscription (which will add onto any existing subscription time that you have). Or you can Enable Auto-Renewal at the bottom of the Auto Renew page then fill in your credit card details so that your pre-paid subscription will automatically renew each month.

Q: Do I have to leave my recorder turned on all the time?  
A: No, but it will only update when it is on and has an Internet connection. You can manually set a wakeup or no-record timer, reservation or schedule to turn on your recorder for an hour early each evening to allow it to download any updates from IceTV.
 
Q: How long does it take for a remotely set recording to be scheduled on my recorder? 
A: It can take up to an hour, though it is often less than 15 minutes.

Humax FAQ

Q: What are the differences between the Humax HDR-7500T models?
A: Just the hard drive size. One is 500GB while the other is 1TB (1,000GB). 
 
Q: What are the differences between the Humax HDR-7500T and HDR-7510T?
A: The HDR-7510T is a model only sold by Harvey Norman and it has a different remote and a different front panel. Due to the different remote control the HDR-7510T is missing a couple of features and a couple of other features are only accessible via a menu. Otherwise it is the same as the HDR-7500T. 
 
Q: Why does my shopping cart not contain the included HDMI cable?
A: This is because the HDMI is included in the box with the HDR-7500T so it is not listed separately, while the USB wireless dongle is an optional extra that comes in it's own box is normally bought separately.
 
Q: Does the Humax support Mac as well as Windows?
A: Yes. All features work equally well with Windows, Mac and Linux computers 
 
Q: Is the iView on the Humax a limited or cut down version like on some Smart TVs or other PVRs?
A: The iView on the Humax has all of the features of the iView website. 
 
Q: Does the Humax FTP support Mac as well as Windows?
A: Yes. Windows, Mac and Linux computers can transfer files to and from the Humax by using an FTP Client like FileZilla
 
Q: Can the Humax record directly to a USB HDD?
A: No. But you can copy recordings to a USB HDD after they have been recorded, and then delete them off the internal HDD if you want. 
 
Q: Can files be transfered to and from a computer?
A: Yes. Windows, Mac and Linux computers can transfer files to and from the Humax by using an FTP Client application like FileZilla on the computer.
 
Q: What format are the Humax recordings in?
A: Humax recordings are mpeg2-ts or .ts video files, with a .ts file extension.
 
Q: Can the Humax recordings can be played on a computer?
A: Yes. Windows, Mac and Linux computers can play the Humax recordings as long as the media player application supports mpeg2-ts or .ts files. VLC and MPlayer are popular media players for Windows, Mac and Linux. KMPlayer is another popular player for Windows only.
 
Q: Can recordings and media files be streamed to and from a computer or media player?
A: Yes. The Humax has both a DLNA server and a DLNA client so other DNLA clients can stream it's recordings, and the Humax can stream media files stored on NAS servers and Windows, Mac and Linux computers as long as they are running a DLNA server.
 
Q: Can I edit recordings on the Humax?
A: No, not on the Humax itself. You can only export them to a computer, via a USB drive to edit them on the computer.
 
Q: Does the Humax have Bookmarks?
A: The HDR-7500T does. The HDR-7510T does not.
 
Q: Does the Humax have Adjustable Skip Buttons?
A: Yes, 2. It also has 2 more skip buttons set to +/- 15 seconds. You can also hold either of the 15 second skip buttons to very quickly jump a long way forwards or backwards as it jumps faster and faster the longer you hold the button.
 
Q: Does the Humax have PIP (Picture In Picture)?
A: No.
 
Q: Can the Humax output a picture to more than 1 device at the same time?
A: Yes. All outputs provide a signal simultaneously. Note: Component on the Humax outputs in SD resolution only.

Can I use 2 Humax models in the same room?
A: Yes you can. You can have up to 6 Humax devices in the 1 room. See this how to guide.

Topfield 2400/2460 FAQ

Q: What are the differences between the Topfield TRF-2400 and TRF-2460 models?
A: Just the hard drive size. The TRF-2400 is 500GB while the TRF-2460 is 1TB (1,000GB).
 
Q: Does the Topfield support Mac as well as Windows?
A: Yes. All features work equally well with Windows, Mac and Linux computers 
 
Q: Can files be transfered to and from a computer?
A: Yes. Windows, Mac and Linux computers can transfer files to and from the Topfield by using an FTP Client application like FileZilla on the computer.

Beyonwiz DP series FAQ

Q: What are the differences between the Beyonwiz DP-Lite-i and the DP-P2 2TB models?
A: The DP-Lite-i has a 500GB hard drive size, while the DP-P2 2TB is 2TB (2,000GB) and also includes an A/V Input, a front display and a front USB and card reader.
 
Q: Does the Beyonwiz support Mac as well as Windows?
A: Yes and No. The Beyonwiz written WizFX software is Windows only, but there are free Mac versions available. Streaming from a Mac and transferring files to the Beyonwiz currently do not work in Mac OS X Lion because Apple removed SMB file sharing. Earlier version of OS X work fine.
 
Q: Can files be transferred to and from a computer?
A: Yes. You can copy files in both directions from the Beyonwiz itself. The folders on the computer must be shared so that the Beyonwiz can see them. But SMB folder sharing in Mac OS X Lion currently does not work.
Windows users can also transfer files "from the Beyonwiz to the PC" using the free Beyonwiz WizFX application. 
Mac users can also use free 3rd party applications written for the Beyonwiz to transfer files "from the Beyonwiz to the Mac".
 
Q: Can the Beyonwiz record directly to a USB HDD?
A: No. But you can move, and copy, recordings to a USB HDD after they have been recorded.
 
Q: What format are the Beyonwiz recordings in?
A: Beyonwiz recordings are mpeg2-ts or .ts video files, except they are stored as lots of 32MB files in a folder with a .tvwiz file extension. 
 
Q: Can the Beyonwiz recordings can be played on a computer?
A: Yes. But you may need to convert the recording into a .ts video file. Windows users can use the free Beyonwiz WizFX application to do this. Mac users can use some free 3rd party applications written for the Beyonwiz like WizMac or YARDWiz.
 
Q: How do I play Beyonwiz recordings on a computer after converting them to .ts video files?
A: Windows, Mac and Linux computers can play the Beyonwiz recordings as .ts video files as long as the media player application supports mpeg2-ts or .ts files. VLC and MPlayer are popular media players for Windows, Mac and Linux. KMPlayer is another popular player for Windows only.
