Why is Media Center very slow or CPU usage very high?

If Media Center is very slow to respond to commands, or its CPU usage is very high, or there are strange warnings or errors in the log, it may be that the IceTV Interactive program's database files contain a corrupted recording schedule or an invalid recording id that is stopping IceTV Interactive and Media Center from running properly. The following steps should fix the problem for you.

  1. First close the IceTV Interactive program: Right-click on the little blue IceTV icon in the Windows Tool Tray, at the bottom right of the desktop next to clock, then left-click on Exit.
  2. Press both the Windows key and E key together (to open 'Computer').
  3. Delete all of the text in address bar in the 'Computer' window.
  4. Copy and paste the following line into the address bar in the 'Computer' window, then press Enter:
    • %ProgramData%\IceTV\Interactive\3.0
  5. Delete all the files in the '3.0' folder but not the folder named 'cache'. The 'cache' folder only contains the channel logos so you can leave it and the files it contains. See the following image.
  6. Run the IceTV Interactive program again from the Windows Start Menu or desktop shortcut.
  7. If you see a Windows security message you need to allow IceTV Interactive to create its required files and folders. The security message may open beneath the IceTV Interactive window so check the taskbar for an extra tab,

That should fix the problem, if was caused by a corrupted recording schedule . Let us know if that still hasn't solved your problem.

Note: If you are unable to open the ProgramData folder using the steps above you can also get to the Interactive folder the following way:

  1. Open “Computer” from the start menu.
  2. Select your Windows hard drive from the list of drives available.
  3. Open the “ProgramData” folder. If you do not see this folder, enable showing hidden files as follows:
    • Click on the “Organise” button in the bar at the top of the window.
    • Select “Folder and Search Options” from the menu.
    • Click on the “View” tab.
    • Place a dot in the box marked “Show hidden files, folders and drives”.
    • Click “OK”.
    • You should now be able to see the “ProgramData” folder so go ahead and open it.
  4. Now open the “IceTV” folder.
  5. Open the “Interactive” folder.
  6. Open the '3.0' folder.
  7. Delete all the files in the '3.0' folder but not the folder named 'cache'. The 'cache' folder only contains the channel logos so you can leave it and the files it contains. See the image above.
  8. Run the IceTV Interactive program again from the Windows Start Menu or desktop shortcut.
  9. If you see a Windows security message you need to allow IceTV Interactive to create its required files and folders. The security message may open beneath the IceTV Interactive window so check the taskbar for an extra tab.

That should fix the problem, if was caused by a corrupted recording schedule. Let us know if that still hasn't solved your problem.

Once finished, you may want to hide the hidden files and folders again so repeat steps 1 to 3 but place a dot in the box marked “Don't show hidden files, folders or drives”.
