Why do I get an error saying 'Guide not available for your country/region'?

Note: This article relates to Windows Vista only. For Windows 7 or 8 see the Windows 7 article here.

If you receive the error saying that the guide is not available for your country/region when going through the Vista media center "Setup Guide Listings" wizard then there are three things to check.

  • Firstly you will need to ensure that the IceTV Interactive application is setup, installed and running, with the tickbox "Fix Registry Keys When Changed" checked. On the configuration screen you can also click on the "Fix Now" button to perform the fix manually.
  • If you then still receive the error message when running through the wizard, at the point that you receive the message leave the message on screen, then minimize the Media Center window. Open the IceTV Interactive client by right clicking on the icon in the system tray (down near the time), it will look like an IceTV logo (a white star in a blue circle), and select "Show" from the menu that appears. On the "Configuration" screen click the button "Fix Now", minimize the IceTV Interactive window and go back into the Media Center window. Click "Back" and then "Next" to get the wizard to try the download again and this time it will work.
  • Another option now is to install a patch from Microsoft that will stop this from occurring in the future. This patch is available as part of the Service Pack 1 (SP1) update for Windows Vista, more information regarding this patch can be found at:

    Microsoft KnowledgeBase Article KB935685

Once you have installed SP1 the patch will also need to be activated by adding information into the registry. We have made this step easier with the use of the following file. If you click on the link below and then choose to "Run" the file it will ask you to confirm that you wish to add the information into the registry, select "Yes" and it will add the correct information.

You should also restart the computer and re-setup the guide via the "Setup Guide Listings" wizard once you have completed the above steps. These can be found at Setting up the IceTV Guide for Microsoft® Windows® Vista Media Center Edition
