Updating the firmware on your Topfield TRF-53x0, 2460, 2400 or TF7100HDPlus

These instructions are for Topfield TRF-5320, 5310, 5300, 2460, 2400 and TF7100HDPlus models.

There are 2 different ways to upgrade the firmware on your Topfield: Download the update to a USB thumbdrive or over the Internet from the menu on the Topfield.

USB Firmware Upgrade

Alternatively, if the automatic process above does not work, please update manually via your computer.

Thankfully an Australian Topfield fan (IanL-S) had setup an online repository of Topfield firmware (and lots of general information) for Australian Topfield models before Topfield went into liquidation.

First step, on your PC:

  1. Go to the oztoppy wikidot Topfield firmware download page.
  2. Find your Topfield model in the list and click on the Firmware Link at the end of that model's firmware version list.
  3. Double click on Firmware which will open a Google Drive page, then double click on the firmware with the latest date.
  4. Double click on the selected file then click on Download in the popup dialog.
  5. Browse to a folder on your computer where you want to download the firmware file to (Downloads or Desktop etc) and click on Save or Download.
  6. Go to where the downloaded file is and IF it is a ZIP file unzip the zip file. Note: Mac computers may unzip the file automatically. If it is a .tfd file do NOT try to open it.
  7. Copy the firmware file with the .tfd file extension onto a USB Stick or Flash Pen/Drive or Jump Stick.
  8. Note the name of the file as you will need to know the name in the steps below. It usually starts with your Topfield's model name (trf- or tf then some numbers).

Then, on the PVR:

  1. Turn the Topfield on and press the "Menu" button on the remote control.
  2. Scroll to "Installation" and press OK on the remote.
  3. Scroll to "Firmware Upgrade" and press OK on the remote.
  4. Plug the USB Stick or Flash Drive or Jump Stick into one of the USB slots on your Topfield.
  5. Select "USB Firmware Upgrade" and press OK on the remote.
  6. Select the firmware file from the list of files that appear and press OK on the remote.
  7. Select "Yes" and press OK when asked if you'd like to continue.
  8. The Topfield will prepare to update the firmware, then reboot and update the firmware (this might take a few minutes).
  9. The Topfield will then reboot again with the new firmware already installed.
  10. You can now remove the USB stick.

Network Firmware Upgrade

Update: Network Firmware Upgrades probably won't work as Topfield (Australia and Korea) are in liquidation. Instead please see the USB Firmware Upgrade steps above.

Note: To perform the Network Firmware Upgrade the Topfield must have Internet access.

To update your Topfield to the latest firmware, please follow these simple steps:

  1. Turn the machine on and go press the "Menu" button on the remote control.
  2. Scroll to "Installation" and press OK on the remote.
  3. Scroll to "Firmware Upgrade" and press OK on the remote.
  4. Scroll to "Network Firmware Upgrade" and press OK on the remote.
  5. Make sure that the update server is set to: update.topfield-europe.com
  6. Select 'Start Firmware Upgrade' and press OK on the remote.
    • Sometimes it will fail at this point with a network error. Instead, just perform the USB Firmware Upgrade steps below.
  7. Select 'Yes' and press OK on the remote to start the update.
  8. Do NOT turn the Topfield off until the update has finished.
  9. Within a few minutes the update will complete and the Topfield will switch itself off and back on.

I was going to go the manual route not realizing that an auto upgrade was available.

What is the correct address for the auto update on the 2460 Topfield. The address that has worked in the past update.topfield-europe.com no longer resolvable by DNS.

I can't access the Topfield site at all.  It comes up with an error supposedly saying I'm not connected to the internet, but if I can access this site, I am clearly connected to the net! I tried to Daylight Saving update method as if I had the latest software in the early hours of this morning.  But I have just checked, and there is nothing at all in the presets for future recordings!  Sigh.  Guess I'm going to have to do things the hard way.  I tried to download the software just in case I don't have the latest version, but I can't get onto the Topfield site.

    Hi Kirsty,

Topfield's site has been down for a few days. As long as you have updated the firmware sometime in the last 12 months, you should be fine. If you have any other hassles, please call us.

I can get onto the topfield site, but none of the firmware download links work. Does this mean topfield are no longer a company. The forum site is not working also. I was thinking of getting another topfield from you but I now don't know what to do. Is there another way to get the latest firmware? I have it on my machine as I have wi-fi but my mothers has not & needs it via USB.

I have tried the update site several times and it does not work. I have two 2460 machines and because of the useless websites I will not recommend them to anyone else. I have tried the German and UK sites and they do not appear to have the 2460. Very frustrating!
